How to check before a call

Allow the prompt and the camera and microphone start together. Look at yourself, say something and watch the level move, then play the test sound. That is everything a video call needs, in about ten seconds. If one of them is not ready this page says which, and the full test for that device goes deeper than this one does.

Questions

Do you record or upload anything?

No. The picture and the sound are handled by your own browser and never leave the tab. Nothing is recorded, nothing reaches a server, and closing the page ends it.

Why does it ask for the camera and microphone together?

One prompt is quicker than two when you are about to join something. If that combined request fails, the page asks for each on its own so it can tell you which of the two is the problem instead of failing at both.

Why can’t it check my speakers by itself?

Because nothing comes back. A browser can send sound to an output but has no way to learn whether it arrived, so the one thing it cannot do is hear your room. Press the button and the judging is yours.

How do I test my camera and microphone before a Zoom or Teams meeting?

Open this page and allow the prompt. You see your own picture, your level moves when you talk, and the test sound tells you the output is alive. That covers the three things a video call needs, and it takes about ten seconds.

It says everything works, so why can nobody hear me in the call?

This page checks that your browser can reach your devices. It cannot check the app you are calling from. Zoom, Teams, Meet and Discord each keep their own device picker and their own permission, and they often have a different microphone selected from the one your browser uses. Check inside the app as well.

Why does my camera work here but not in the call?

Usually because this page is still holding it. On many systems a camera can only be claimed by one app at a time, so close this tab before you join. It works the other way round as well. If the call is already running, that app has the camera and this page reports it as being in use.
